Here at Farmhouse Wicks we enjoy what we do. There is so much to learn as we go. Somedays I feel blissfully tired after working in the shop. To produce a candle that is safe to burn, it takes being aware of, looking and learning about what scents pass the test and what doesn't. Some bond to the 100% pure soy wax we use and others not as well. We run testers here. It looks almost like a laboratory back here where we work with our little vials of fragrance oils for testing purposes. There are days you become disappointed as the scent was so good out of the bottle or maybe the name was so alluring yet it wasn't a good hot throw. I have not used paraffin in any of the candles however I hear by the hearing of the grapevine, that the paraffin wax has good hot throws. Well, you can rest, we will not be sneaking any paraffin wax in to make that happen. By the way, a hot throw is the strength of the scent when it is burning. Yet, to keep the candles pure, I would rather be defeated by a few bad hot throws that we throw out.
Oh how I love the girls that work here as they take interest in this. Our bathroom is the place where we burn our testers. So if you come here on the days we are open you will see and (hopefully smell) a good candle in there. Our customers our good judges as well. We love our customers as they feel just like friends to us.
And how we love our companies that we buy our fragrances from. They all strive to put out the best, safest and scentsiest (not sure that's a true adjective) scents. They work to keep them safe and are so good to alert us if one does not pass strict safety codes. So with that being said, a scent may disappear off of the list. No, that isn't very often yet, I am thankful they are concerned. My head is not in the sand when we buy these scents. And if it is, I am quick to discontinue any harmful elements in the candles.
The best compliments I have from my customers are that the candles from Farmhouse Wicks do not cause them headaches. Woo Hoo!!! That makes me strive harder to keep it that way and to work hard to keep the testers burning, trying new scents and working for our customers. You all have a good day and go light a candle.
